How to Wrap a Wine Bottle (That’ll Wow Any Hostess)

Turn a simple bottle of wine into the most talked-about gift at the party. Here’s how to wrap it beautifully—no gift bag required.

Every time I give a wrapped wine bottle as a hostess gift, it’s a hit. It’s such a simple way to take an average bottle of wine and instantly make it feel thoughtful, festive, and elevated. With just a sheet of beautiful wrapping paper and a few folds, you can create something that feels like a real gift—not just something you grabbed on the way out the door.

Ready to learn how? This step-by-step tutorial will show you how to wrap a wine bottle using double-sided wrapping paper (I use the sheets from my own shop!), a little tape, and a gift tag or ribbon to finish it off.

1. Choose Your Wrapping Paper

Start with a sheet of quality wrapping paper. Here's what works best:

  • Double-sided wrapping paper gives you that beautiful peek of pattern on both sides—so much more visually interesting than single-sided!

  • Thicker paper (not too stiff, but not flimsy) is ideal—it won’t tear easily and holds folds better.

PRO TIP:

I use the double-sided wrapping paper sheets from my shop—this cocktail print is one of my favorites because it features wine bottles and vibrant glassware.

2. Fold Into a Triangle

  • Take one corner of your paper and fold it diagonally to form a triangle.

  • If you’re using double-sided paper, fold it so that about ½–1 inch of the reverse side peeks out—it adds dimension and color.

  • Trim the excess so your triangle creates a clean, even square when unfolded.

3. Create the Accordion Fold

  • Take one corner of the triangle and begin folding it accordion-style (back and forth).

  • Keep your folds about ½ to 1 inch wide.

  • Continue folding until you reach the halfway point of the triangle.

4. Wrap the Wine Bottle

  • Place the wine bottle on the opposite side of the accordion folds, along the straight edge.

  • Wrap the paper around the bottle snugly and secure it with clear tape.

5. Add a Finishing Touch

  • Wrap a ribbon around the neck or base of the bottle to hide any visible tape and add a pop of color.

  • Finish with a personalized wine tag or gift tag for an extra-special detail. These little additions make the gift feel custom and complete.

A Thoughtful, Easy Hostess Gift—Every Time

Once you try this wine bottle wrapping technique, you’ll never go back to gift bags again. It’s simple, stylish, and makes your hostess gift stand out from the crowd. Whether it’s a dinner party, a holiday gathering, or a last-minute invite, a beautifully wrapped wine bottle feels personal and polished with almost no effort.
